Our Verdict: The only desktop vaporizer with all ceramic heating elements, the Silver Surfer Vaporizer performs very well. Made by the same makers of Da Buddha Vaporizer, one can expect the same potent performance with the Silver Surfer. It is a top-of-the-line, high-quality unit that’s very durable, and it comes with a 3-year warranty as well.

First Impressions
vaporizer_silver_surfer

Design: The unit has a striking design, with a flat circular base and a cylindrical body that sits at an angle. The slanted body provides more than just from a design standpoint; it also plays a huge part in the overall performance of the device. The aluminum body has a nice finish to it, and the glass temperature knobs give the overall impression of a top-shelf vaporizer. Some describe it as a work of art while others marvel at its simple, yet elegant design that serves a purpose both aesthetically and functionally.

Build Quality: The Silver Surfer has a thick aluminum housing that makes it very durable. The manufacturers claim it is indestructible, and users may be inclined to believe it. There are glass parts that would still require some care when handling though they look like they are crafted from marbles that make it seem tougher than regular glass. The silicon tube is made from high-quality material, and overall, the device looks like it would last a lifetime with proper care.

What’s in the Box: The Silver Surfer Vaporizer comes packaged with one vaporizer bag, one standard vapor whip, one glass tipped custom stir tool, two-pieces ⅝” replacement screens, and one instruction manual.

Vaping Experience

Usability: Using the Silver Surfer is similar to that of other whip vaporizers, and is quite easy to operate. Upon first turning the unit on, the manufacturer suggests setting the temperature to its maximum setting during the heating up period. During this time, one can prepare the herb to be used. Once done, loosely pack some ingredients into the whip, filling it up about ⅛ of an inch in depth.

Then, users take the glass end of the whip and attach it to the glass heater cover on the device itself, and start inhaling. You can adjust the temperature to taste by this time, ideally between the 10:00 and 12:00 position. During use, one can shake the material in between draws to ensure an even vaporization. When the taste starts to wane, this means the herb is about to run out and needs replacing. To empty it out, just turn the whip upside down and shake the material out, or use the included pick to force it out.

Overall, the device is relatively straightforward to use, without any special rituals to complicate things. Beginners can easily get into it while advanced users will appreciate the simple operation.

Vapor Production and Performance: Vapor from the Silver Surfer is good and potent. Vapor quality and density depend on the temperature, how fast, and how often one draws. Users who prefer quick draws will find the higher heat settings more to their liking. While those who take long, slow draws will do well with slightly lower heat settings. Whichever way one vapes, the vapor is relatively dense and tastes clean because of the ceramic and glass parts. Overall, vapor production is excellent.

As for the performance, the Silver Surfer is a great device. However, there are no LED screens, so users will not be able to adjust temperature precisely. When the unit is heating up, the temperature knob should be turned all the way up. After about two minutes, one can lower the temperature to about the 10:00 or 12:00 position. From there, users can fine-tune the temperature to their liking. It may not display what temperature the device is at, but after a little experimentation, users will know where to set the knob for their preferred vape.

For dry herb, about 1/3 of power is enough for a satisfying vape. For oils – which need more heat to be vaporized correctly – ⅔ power is just about right.

The glass and ceramic parts are the most fragile parts of the device, so one should take care when handling them. However, if parts do break, these can easily be replaced inexpensively.

While there is a learning curve to using the device, after some practice it becomes easy enough for anyone to use.

Battery Life and Atomizers: Being a desktop vaporizer, the Silver Surfer requires no batteries. Instead, it is plugged into a power socket. Thus, users do not have to worry about losing power in the middle of a session. While this does not make the Silver Surfer portable, it is not designed to be. It is a vaporizer used in the comfort of one’s home for stress-free vaping.

The heating element of the device is made of ceramic, with glass parts to ensure a clean vape every time, without aftertastes. The heater is capable of temperatures up to 900°F, which is more than one needs to heat herbs up. It takes about two minutes to heat up, which is good for a desktop vaporizer. The glass knob on the front of the device adjusts the heat, and while there is no way to know exactly the temperature, the dial works well and smooth enough to let users adjust by taste.

Additionally, since the heating elements are made of glass and ceramic, residue will build up eventually. Fortunately, cleaning the Silver Surfer is easy and can be done with a clean cloth and some alcohol.

Additional Details

The Silver Surfer is not perfect, but for the price, users will get a well-built, great performing vaporizer. The glass and ceramic parts may need extra care, but overall, the device is built-to-last. As long as one does not accidentally knock the device over, it will last a lifetime with proper maintenance.

Users looking for a high-quality desktop vaporizer that performs well should consider the Silver Surfer. It is simple to use, and very durable. It also comes in a variety of colors as well to match most vaper’s homes. Moreover, at $270, few can match its bang-for-buck value.
